Detox from all the things that have been throwing you off your game! It’s easy to tell yourself you’re going to make all the positive changes you can think of in the new year. However, 2017 is going to get off to a much more impactful start if you lay some groundwork now.
Rid yourself of some of the impurities that you’ve been holding onto – whether they developed this month or you’ve been cultivating some badness all year.

#1 Tech Detox
Do you wake up and check your phone? Do you bring your phone into bed with you? Are you checking it constantly? If you answered yes to any of these questions then it’s time to give it a rest. Replace that phone checking habit with something positive. First thing in the morning – review your planner and see what you’ve got going on today. Still need a planner for 2017? Check out my favorite one here.
#2 Detox your Body
Have you been going overboard with the sweets or heavy comfort foods? Parties are a challenge this time of year – it’s easy to fall off of a good eating plan and give yourself a pass because “the holidays only come once a year” but that kind of attitude can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. When you’re not at a party make sure you’re loading up on vegetables and lean proteins. When you join The Whole Dancer email list I’ll send you a healthy snacking cheat sheet to help you manage cravings this season!
#3 Skin Detox
Let your skin breathe. You’ve been wearing stage makeup and sweating through Nutcracker stage rehearsals and countless performances. When you’re not on the stage – give your skin a break from the makeup and try a healthier makeup. Whole Foods carries brands with healthier ingredients. Two of my favorites are Evan Healy and Dr. Hauschka. (Insider tip, you can also purchase these brands via different beauty websites online for cheaper prices!)
#4 Detox your relationships
Not all friendships are health. If you have a friend who is not supportive or brings you down – you can distance yourself or confront her. If you think it’s salvageable then talk it out and meet her with love. If you think it will continue to be damaging – find some space and start to move on.
#5 Detox from bad habits
If you’ve started slacking off during a certain part of class or you’ve started allowing yourself to slink to the back of the studio. It’s time to turn it around. Especially if you’re going to be auditioning for summer programs or companies in the coming months, it’s time to start amping up your confidence. Fake it til you make it and if you start faking it now you’ll have a greater chance of making it come 2017!
#6 Detox your closet
Too many possessions can honestly weigh you down and hold you back. If you’re overwhelmed by clutter, this is the perfect time to clean it out. I’m a BIG fan of Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. My biggest takeaway and one of the things you can start implementing now is to consider each item in your closet. Actually hold it in your hands and think about whether that item brings you joy. If it doesn’t, toss it.
There you have it. My ultimate 2016 detox list. Practical ways to ensure that you’re heading into 2017 feeling lighter, freer, and more motivated. And, don’t forget – if you need some support in the new year, join me for the exclusive LIVE round of The Dancer’s Best Body Program. It kicks off in January but enrollment is open now!
